About FAME

Familes Advancing Music Education (FAME) exists to suport the music programs at all levels, elementary, middle, and high school, in the Upper Perkiomen public school system. It is not a fundraising organization but its purpose is to inform, advocate, and volunteer where and when needed.

In the past, FAME members have volunteered at school concerts, open houses, at the middle school musical and the high school musical, handed out concert schedules on bookmarks on Community Day, and de-squeaked the auditorium chairs at the high school before May Arts Week.

FAME grew in its role as an umbrella organization this year by building stronger ties with parents' groups supporting the band and choir programs and with its advocacy for and support of the auditorium renovation project completed this past December 2009.

In 2010 and 2011 we worked to increase awareness of the district music programs by setting up information tables at school open houses and instrument night, and possibly by creating a brochure on the programs for the school offices to have available for interested students and parents.

In 2011 we organized volunteers to help out with the District 11 Elementary Band Festival in February, and the high school musical, Footloose, in March. We organized a Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebees on March 5, 2011 to raise funds to restore the organ in the high school auditorium.

In 2013 we co-sponsored the first ever Make Music Upper Perk (MMUP) music festival. In 2014, MMUP went from 7 venues to 9 venues; from approximately 100 musicians to over 150. We have already started work on Make Music Upper Perk 2015.

MISSION STATEMENT

To ensure the highest quality musical education for our children (K-12) so that the program may be continually improving, allowing each student to maximize their individual potential. Our objectives will be to address critical needs, promoting a close relationship among parents, staff, administration, the community, and the students at all grade levels.

FAME also seeks to serve as an umbrella organization and information clearinghouse for all the music groups and band and choral supporters in the Upper Perkiomen elementary, middle and high school.
